Wherever & Whenever

I'm really enjoying my new Mac laptop. It's really nice being able to work on stuff wherever & whenver. And the Mac OS integrates everything so nicely. I'll be posting some pictures of my Mac in a day or two, so check back later to see them!

Drumming, a Mac, and an English Essay

So yesterday, I'm at my church playing drums, when I see Sean walk in. (Sean used to be our main drummer, and he still plays occasionally, but he attends a different church now.) I thoroughly enjoy playing the drums, and I'm decent at it, but when I see Sean I start freaking out. I started worrying about everything I did, if it sounded professonal or not, especially my fills (i.e. toms, cymbals, etc. - the stuff that leads into another section of a song). I was rather nervous. The good thing is, God helped me to keep going and kept it from affecting my playing too much *halleluja*, and I felt pretty foolish later. (Sean told me later that I did a good job, and that he was actually pretty excited to see that I was playing drums. I worry waaay too much.)

So anyway, I still had fun. I just have to keep in mind that I still have a lot to learn about drumming.

On another note, I got my new Mac laptop! :) I really like it, and I'm actually using it right now to write this post. I'm planning to get Photoshop CS2 (the whole Creative Suite, actually) soon, along with Digital Performer, which will help me create more music.

(For the uninitiated, the Dashboard is the Mac's place for the storage of Widgets, nifty little programs that give you information or some form of useful interaction. Some, like that pine tree air freshener on the right, are just for decoration.)


I'm also thinking about buying a Theremin kit, which will give me all the parts to build one of these awesome electronic instruments. I probably won't be able to get to it until after school's out, though.

Speaking of school, I had to write an in-class essay in English 102 today. It went pretty well *hallelujah again* but I didn't get to write the last two sentences to make my concluding paragraph meet the 5-sentence requirement. Oh well, praise the Lord that the rest of it went really well and I didn't forget anything!

Hooray for a new Mac (soon)

Hey! I am really excited - I just transferred some money so I can go buy my MacBook tomorrow! HOORAY! I am very excited.

What else is new? There's this really cool dragon you can print out here. If you fold it right, it will watch you. Even though it's only made of paper. It's really cool.

Busy-ness

I've been reaaally busy lately, and it's going to continue for the rest of the week...I'm afraid I'm going to crash/burnout. It's going to be hard to get enough sleep Saturday nite so I can be fresh and well-rested for Sunday morning.

Which reminds me...I'm playing drums again on Sunday. This will the third time I've played drums for chuch (or at all, really). I'm starting to get concerned -- if I keep playing drums on a regular basis, there will be no one to run video, since there are only two other people who can/will do it, and one of them is moving away soon and the other is planning to quit. From what I can tell, the worship team really likes / (sometimes) needs me to play drums, but it looks like I'm going to be the only video person soon. Aaaand I play keyboard sometimes as well, especially when our other keyboard player needs a break. I can't be in three places at once, so I don't know how this is going to work out. I'm going to pray. Hard. I'd appreciate if any other Christians out there would do the same.

(un)Detached.

So, finally the first post!


My friend P.J. told me today that I'm "not detached from my music like other people are."

I, of course, went, "Huh?"

So he said something along the lines of "Most people go, 'I'm writing a song,' " making the motion of writing something down. He then took the "paper" he wrote on and handed it to no one in particular, saying, " 'Here is the song I wrote,' " as if it was, well, something on a piece of paper. Like a ball, or something else that you just pick up and put down whenever. Then, "You're (Corey) like this." He made the motion of someone putting on a pair of pants and said, as if he was me, " 'This is my song,' " as if he (me) was closely associated with the song, in the same manner we are associated with our style of dress. He then said, "That's a good thing. Most people don't do it, but the ones who do are the prodigies." It made me feel real good. (Thanks, P.J.!)

So I thought about that for a while, and I had a thought: my songs are me. Without my music, I'm not sure if could exist. I have no other way to express myself as I can in my music. Some of the feelings I express there, I have no other avenue for.

So, I guess I should be saying to you, the listeners, "Thank you for listening to my music!" and to God, my Creator, "Thank you my letting me making music!" Without music, I would not be complete.

So...Thank You!
